  The proprietor of an ice-skating revue promotes a peanut-vendor at the show to a management position based on suggestions he made to improve the act of the show's star, who also happens to be the owner's wife. However, he soon begins to notice that his new manager is paying more attention to his wife than he believes is appropriate, and begins to suspect that his new manager has designs not only on his wife but on his business. Meanwhile, someone from the new manager's past shows up with information that could wreck his plans.

2 ) 超吊!

这部只有10分钟默片,不仅片名,且其中许多表现手法都很容易让人联想起希区柯克电影。例如,追车时的汽车后视镜与《火车上的陌生人》中掉落到草地上眼镜一样,都在通过镜面折射向观众呈现危机惊悚时刻;而与格兰特端牛奶上楼有几分相似的歹徒持刀上楼的段落则似乎更精彩:歹徒从画面右下角开始,一步一步逼近画面。整个镜头极具压迫感。特别是歹徒的那双眼睛,貌似直视着镜头,但真到了近前却突然失焦。人从镜头前划过!

不过,本片导演用以制造紧张和悬疑的交叉蒙太奇,却不是希胖的最爱。希区柯克认为像格里菲斯那样用飞奔的马蹄与家人危在旦夕(《一个国家的诞生》中3K党救急)交替切换的方式,不如让镜头只去表现其中一方的进展的效果来的好。观众知道那边的救援的马队已出发,却不知道什么时候能到。于是便会更加焦虑。

这一理念很好的体现在《狂凶记》当中。主人公与女友入住酒店。早间,女人裸起入厕,镜头跟摇并引出门下塞进的晨报。那头版上分明印着通缉告示。接着镜头一转,酒店接待处,女老板也在看报并发现相片与昨天入住的客人相貌吻合,于是打电话报警。至此,希区柯克的镜头再也没有切回给主人公的房内而是始终对着大厅。直至警察到来,大家一起上电梯,找到房间,最终打开房门,才发现报纸摊在床上,两人已经逃之夭夭。观众的紧张得到释放……

丈夫赶回去营救被凶恶流浪汉缠上的独自在家的妻子女主与她的婴儿孩子并最终成功。视听上:钥匙扣构图营造逼仄不安感;后视镜镜头解释丈夫看到后面有人;“最后一分钟营救”的交叉蒙太奇;运用多个三角分屏实现平行/交叉蒙太奇;女主那个俯视流浪汉的主观镜头中流浪汉与她的距离显得不合常理地近,从而营造扭曲的诡谲感。

极佳,洛伊斯韦伯自导自演,早期的女性导演。其中三处非常有意思,一是从楼上看楼下,正好与闯入者对视,这里用了主观镜头,具有创造性;二是丈夫、妻子、闯入者构成的三角式分屏,两者对话,其中一人割断电话线,同步进行;三是丈夫开车,后面警察追上来是通过后视镜里表达出来的。配乐营造了紧迫感,即使表演过于夸张也无损。

有幸看到了这部短片,很庆幸自己没有错过它。短短10分钟的默片却能拍的如此紧张刺激,很不简单。剧情很简单,主要是其中的表现手法令人印象深刻,一是交叉蒙太奇制造紧张氛围,一是追车时的汽车后视镜通过镜面折射向观众呈现惊悚时刻,一是歹徒逼近镜头的压迫感,还有就是精彩的配乐也起到明显作用
